Gas Safe boiler and heating engineers covering Bushey
We are a small heating firm based on Granville Road in Watford, which borders Bushey. It is one of the closest towns to us and one of the shortest journeys we make.
Between us we cover Bushey Village, Bushey Heath, Little Bushey and the WD23 postcode generally. Andrew or Elis does the work. We do not use subcontractors, and the person who quotes the job is the person who turns up to do it.
What we do in Bushey
- Boiler repairs and fault finding
- Annual boiler servicing
- New boilers and boiler replacement
- Central heating installation and repair
- Radiators, valves and controls
- Power flushing and system cleaning
- Unvented hot water cylinders
- Underfloor heating
Boiler repairs in Bushey
Most calls we take are a boiler that has locked out, lost pressure, or is heating the radiators but not the hot water. Some of it is straightforward. A pressure drop is often a leaking valve or an expansion vessel that has lost its charge, and neither needs a new boiler.
Andrew has spent forty years fault finding, and that is the part of the job that saves people money. A boiler that has been condemned by somebody else is worth a second opinion before you replace it, because the cost of being wrong runs into thousands.
We give you the price before we start. There is no call-out fee, and if the repair is not worth doing we will say so rather than take the money and leave you replacing it in six months.
Boiler servicing in Bushey
A service means opening the boiler up. We check combustion with an analyser, inspect the heat exchanger and seals, test the safety devices, check the flue and its terminal, and clean what needs cleaning.
Two things make servicing matter more in Bushey than the manufacturer's schedule suggests.
The first is water hardness. Bushey sits on the same chalk as the rest of south west Hertfordshire and the water is hard. Scale forms on the hot side of a combi, and a heat exchanger that is furring up loses efficiency long before it fails outright. Catching it early is the difference between a clean and a replacement part.
The second is that a lot of Bushey boilers are in lofts and airing cupboards in older houses, where a slow leak or a corroding flue joint can go unnoticed for a year. Those are the faults an annual service is for.
Servicing also keeps a manufacturer's warranty valid. If your boiler is still inside its warranty period, missing a service can cost you the cover.
New boilers and replacements in Bushey
Sizing is where most boiler installations go wrong, and in Bushey there are two local reasons for that.
Mains pressure and flow at height
Bushey Heath is on high ground, and the higher you go the weaker the incoming mains tends to be. A combi can only deliver the hot water that the mains delivers to it, so a big combi on a weak supply gives you a disappointing shower. We measure the flow rate at the stopcock before we quote. If the flow is not there, we will tell you, and a system boiler with a cylinder or an unvented cylinder may be the better answer.
Period property and flue routing
Bushey Village has a good deal of Victorian and Edwardian housing, along with the 1930s stock further out. Older houses often have no convenient external wall near the existing boiler position, solid walls that are awkward to core, and chimney breasts that people assume can take a flue and usually cannot. Working out where the flue can legally and sensibly go is part of the quote, not a surprise on the day.
We are Viessmann accredited and it is the brand we recommend most often, but we install every major brand and we are not paid to push one. The right boiler is the one that suits the property, the hot water demand and what you want to spend.
Every installation comes with our own one year guarantee on the work, on top of the manufacturer's warranty on the boiler itself.
Central heating work in Bushey
Radiators that are cold at the bottom, a system that takes an hour to come up to temperature, or rooms that never get warm are usually a circulation problem rather than a boiler problem. Sludge collects at the low points of a system and hard water makes it worse over time.
We power flush where a flush is the right answer, replace radiators and valves, fit magnetic filters, and balance systems properly so the far end of the house heats at the same rate as the near end. We also fit modern and smart controls, including weather compensation, which is worth having on a condensing boiler and is still fitted far too rarely.

Common questions
How quickly can you get to Bushey?
We are based on Granville Road in Watford, which borders Bushey, so it is one of the shortest journeys we make. Ring us and we will tell you when we can get to you rather than guess at it.
Do you charge a call-out fee in Bushey?
No. There is no call-out fee and no charge for a quotation. We price the job before we start it, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay.
My combi loses pressure in the shower upstairs. Is that the boiler?
Not always. Parts of Bushey Heath sit high enough that incoming mains pressure and flow are weaker than they are down in Watford, and a combi can only heat the water that reaches it. We measure the flow rate at the stopcock before recommending anything, because the fix may be a different type of system rather than a different boiler.
Do I need a scale reducer in Bushey?
Bushey is in a hard water area, which is normal for this part of Hertfordshire. Scale builds up on the hot side of a combi over the years and shortens the life of the heat exchanger. On a new installation we fit scale protection as standard, and on an existing boiler we will tell you whether it is worth adding.
Which boiler brands do you work on?
We service, repair and install all the main brands. We are Viessmann accredited and it is the brand we recommend most often, but we are not tied to it and we will fit whatever suits the property and the budget.
Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes, registration number 586325. You can check it on the Gas Safe Register website before we come out, and the engineer will carry their card.
